How to check your email accounts for data breaches
How to turn on breach detection and see if your email addresses have shown up in a data breach
On this page
Breach detection checks whether your email addresses were caught up in a known hack, and tells you which sites to change your password on.
Check your accounts
- Go to the Breach Detection page.
- Switch the toggle to Enabled.
- Give it a few minutes. Once it's done, you'll see any hacks we found.
We check every email address on your account: the one you log in with, and every email account you've connected.
To do this we send those addresses to Have I Been Pwned, a trusted service that keeps a list of known hacks. We don't send anything else, and we only send your addresses while breach detection is switched on.
When we check
- As soon as you turn it on.
- Whenever you connect a new email account.
- Every week, if you're on a paid plan.
What to do next
If we find something, don't panic. It's very common, and it doesn't mean someone is in your email. See What is breach detection? for what each result means and which passwords to change.
